1. WKD at KEMH, Pune:
We teamed up with members of IAP Pune Branch and walked through Saras Baugh amidst those out for their morning constitutional, armed with banners and fliers with information regarding measures that can help protect little kidneys. We seized the opportunity of having a ready audience of parents and caretakers in the OPD waiting area. Our team of medical social worker, trainee doctors and consultants did role plays stressing the importance of detecting kidney diseases and need of regular follow up. With the assistance of IAP Pune Branch, we circulated informative (WhatsApp) messages related to common cases in Pediatric Nephrology, amongst pediatricians

1. WKD at KEMH, Pune
Children attending the Pediatric Nephrology OPD at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Pune were invited with their parents and siblings to a fun-filled event. The children were given drawing sheets with crayons and were asked to draw and colour kidneys and put down any facts they they were aware of regarding functions of the kidneys and ways to keep them healthy. These were then displayed for all the parents and doctors to view. All the children were excited in having a tattoo artist ‘painting” a cartoon of their choice on their arms. This was followed by a puppet show which kept the children swaying and clapping to the dancing puppets. The puppeteers cleverly managed to use the puppets to convey important messages about taking care of kidneys and importance of good compliance with therapy and follow up. We had a do it yourself (DIY) session with the children where we helped them to paste kidney shaped stickers onto discarded plastic bottle caps balanced by clay dough from behind. This became like a little rocking kidney. The children were taught to say “our kidneys rock” as they rocked the toy kidneys; simultaneously learned about the shape of the kidneys and learned to re-cycle plastic.
2. WKD at Lilavati Hospital
We at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai had a get together of our kids who had undergone kidney transplant. There was a kidney quiz called ‘Are you a kidney friend’. Both teams ‘The black cats’ and ‘The Red Devils’ did very well. And each kid had got a poster with a slogan/messages to create awareness about kidney transplant.
